Sinclair Island
SINCLAIR ISLAND, one of the American San Juan Islands, is located north of
Anacortes and Guemes islands and is easterly of Cypress Island.
This island, like Blakely, Decatur and Obstruction islands, is a
non-ferry served island, which gives you more privacy than on the ferry served
islands. The county dock is on the
west side of the island. US Mail is
delivered by boat on Wednesdays to this dock.
Each owner has a mailbox in the shed at the top of the ramp.
A welcoming flower box greets your arrival on the island.
Daily
water taxi service is available to/from the mainland.
To fly in, permission is necessary to use the private grass airstrip and
a landing fee is charged.
Sinclair Island was named by
Charles Wilkes in honor of Arthur Sinclair
during the Wilkes expedition of 1838-1842.
Arthur Sinclair was captain of the “General Pike” during a naval battle
in the War of 1812.
